The IRI Certificate Course

IRI1 The Integral Recovery Institute Course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Integral Recovery:

The focus of this course is to provide a lived experience of the application of the Integral Recovery model and practices. The course includes:

9-unit study guide
Downloadable Lecture Recordings on a wide variety of related topics
Weekly Skype meetings with your Faculty Advisor
Monthly Discussion Groups facilitated by the faculty
Weekly Integral Recovery Fellowship Meetings online (optional)

Completion of the certificate course is expected to take from four to six months, and is a pre-requisite for the diploma course.

Why are these courses important?

And why do we say that the future of recovery is Integral? It is because the current state of recovery treatment worldwide is a disaster. There is virtually no education in our medical schools or the schools that train our counselors and therapists—around the world—on the disease of addiction. This has led, in many cases, to doctors being one of the main sources of addictive drugs to our human family.

John Dupuy recently had a young physician from Sweden approach him at an event and tell him, “I’m a doctor and I had to read your book to understand addiction. And you’re not a doctor! Something is wrong here.” To which he responded, “Yes, there is.”

While there are many breakthroughs occurring in our understanding of the disease of addiction as a genetic, neurological, social, and spiritual disease, there has been no serious effort outside of Integral Recovery, to bring all of these disparate fields of study under one roof and to knit them together so that they actually work and cover all the essential bases of this disease.

Meet the IRI Faculty

John Dupuy, M.A. has worked in many of the nation’s top therapeutic wilderness programs and helped found Passages to Recovery and Open Sky Wilderness Therapy. He is the founder of Integral Recovery®, has taught Basic Addiction Studies at JFK University for the last four years, and is author of the award-winning book Integral Recovery: A Revolutionary Approach to the Treatment of Alcoholism and Addiction (2013). John travels nationally and internationally to teach and inspire on the subject of Integral Recovery. He is also a co- founder and CEO of iAwake Technologies, LLC, a meditation technology company. John is a pioneer in using brainwave entrainment technology clinically for the treatment of addiction, depression, and other mental disorders.

Guy du Plessis, BA Hons, BPsych Equivalence, is an independent researcher, Registered Counselor in private practice, co-founder of the Integral Recovery Institute, and the Institute of Integral Addiction Research. He has worked in the addiction treatment milieu for over 15 years as Head of Treatment, Clinical Director, Program Director, Counselor, Trainer, and Program Developer. Guy is the developer of the Integrated Recovery Model and the Integrated Recovery Therapy method, and is a pioneer in the implementation of an integrally informed clinical model within an inpatient addiction treatment milieu. He has several published articles in the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice and is the author of the soon-to-be-published book Addiction Recovery in the New Millennium: The Twelve Steps and Beyond.

Bob Weathers, Ph.D., holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s of Arts in Religious Studies. Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Weathers has provided tens of thousands of hours of therapeutic counseling and recovery coaching to clients. Bob has committed the past 35 years of his professional life to teaching and training graduate-level mental health providers at several southern California universities. He is currently Curriculum Developer at California Southern University, recently developing their brand-new, CAADAC-approved Addiction Studies Certificate and mindfulness-based clinical training coursework. He has published numerous articles in a broad cross-section of professional books, journals, and edited volumes.
